diversity

If you ever wondered HOW to respond when “addressing issues of diversity, racism, and lack of multiculturalism,” you can begin by viewing the attached resource packet. The members of the Diversity Committee compiled a list of resources beneficial for personal reflection, congregational and ministry gatherings, and sharing with those with whom you are in relationship. Information comes from the Cultural Audit published by the Center for the Study of Religious Life and experiences of the committee members.

Be sure to view the list of DVDs on the last page.  They can be useful for raising your own awareness, learning about other cultural groups, and participating in group discussions. For some reflective questions that can aid in the process of moving toward a conversation of attitude while striving to understand diversity, click on the “Questions for Reflection” tab.

“Now, more than ever, racial discrimination is not only about skin color and other physical characteristics associated with race; it is also about other aspects of our identity, such as ethnicity, national origin, language, accent, religion, and cultural customs.

The challenge of America is to ensure that none of these factors continue to affect the quality of life choices so that we can finally treat each other with dignity and respect regardless of our differences.”
