Aston, PA—Sister Alice Mary Sturniolo, OSF, 81, died in Assisi House on September 9. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 57 years. Sister Alice Mary (Concetta Sturniolo) was born in Philadelphia where she was a member of Epiphany Parish. She graduated from St. Monica’s Business School and worked as a stenographer at the Railroad Perishable Inspection Agency. She entered the congregation in 1950 and professed her first vows in 1953. Sister Alice Mary later earned a B.S. in Secondary Education from Villanova University and ministered primarily in education on both elementary and secondary levels. She also worked in parish ministry.

Sister Alice Mary served for 43 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She ministered at Hallahan High School (1960-1963, 1968-1977), St. Elizabeth School (1977-1979), St. Bonaventure School (1979-1981), St. Rita School (1983-1987), St. Nicholas of Tolentine School (1987-1992), Sacred Heart School (1992-2006), and Epiphany of Our Lord School (2007-2010). From 1982-1983 she worked at Our Lady of Angels Convent, Aston. In 2008 she moved to Assisi House in Aston where she served in prayer ministry until her death.

Sister Alice Mary also ministered for eight years in the Diocese of Wilmington. She taught at St. Mary School (1953-1960) and served in parish ministry in St. Catherine of Siena Parish (1981-1982). Additional ministry experience included teaching at Allentown Central Catholic High School (1963-1968).

All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, on Wednesday, September 15. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Alice Mary is survived by two sisters, Mary Lou Greet and Victoria Alfe; two brothers, Joseph and James; nieces, nephews, and by her Franciscan family.
