Aston, PA – Sister Bridget T. McNamara, OSF (formerly Sister Eucharista), died in Assisi House on December 1. She was seventy-seven years of age and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for fifty-four years. Sister Bridget (Bridget Theresa McNamara) was born in Edgeworthtown, County Longford, Ireland. She later moved to Killoe where she was a member of St. James Parish. She entered the congregation in 1949. Two of her cousins also entered the congregation: Sister Anne Lupita McNamara and Sister Rose Bernadette Fitzsimons. Sister Bridget ministered primarily in elementary education (grades 1-3 and CCD) and in healthcare.

Sister Bridget ministered for fifty-two years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She taught at St. Stanislaus School, Lansdale (1951-1953); All Saints School (1953-1954); St. Benedict School (1954-1956); St. Francis deSales School, Lenni (1956-1961); St. Aloysius School, Pottstown (1961-1967); St. Ignatius School, Yardley (1967-1968); and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Doylestown (1968-1971). Her experience in healthcare included ministering with the retired sisters, first at St. Mary Convent, Bryn Mawr (1975-1976), and then at Assisi House in Aston (976-1978). Sister Bridget ministered for twenty-three years at St. Agnes Medical Center in Philadelphia (1978-2001). In 2001 she moved to Assisi House where she served in prayer ministry until her death.

Sister Bridget also ministered for three years in the Diocese of Allentown, teaching at Most Blessed Sacrament School in Bally (1971-1974).

All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, on Wednesday, December 6. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Bridget is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Christopher and Agnes McNamara of Edgewood, Maryland; a sister-in-law, Kitty McNamara in Ireland; by nieces, nephews, and cousins; and by her Franciscan family.
