Aston, PA-Sister Cecil Gabriel DePrisco, OSF, 100, died in Assisi House on June 27, 2011. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 79 years. Sister Cecil Gabriel (Marie Rose DePrisco) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she was a member of Epiphany Parish. She graduated from Hallahan High School. She entered the congregation in 1929 and professed her first vows in 1932. Sister Cecil Gabriel earned a B.S. in Education from Villanova University in 1956 and ministered primarily in elementary and secondary education. Sister Cecil Gabriel was recently given official recognition by the County of Delaware “in grateful acknowledgment of distinguished service and exemplary citizenship.” Sister Cecil would have turned 101 on July 15.

Sister Cecil Gabriel ministered for 63 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She taught at Our Lady of Consolation School, Tacony (1929-1932, 1963-1969); Nativity School, Media (1932-1934); Resurrection School, Chester (1934-1935); St. Alphonsus School, Philadelphia (1941-1942); St. Benedict School, Philadelphia (1954-1958, 1969-1971); St. Stanislaus School, Lansdale (1958-1960); Immaculate Conception School, Marcus Hook (1960-1963); and finished her ministry in education at St. Maria Goretti High School in Philadelphia (1971-1989) where she spent 18 years. She also ministered for several years in house/prayer ministry at St. Francis Convent, Philadelphia (1989-2008). She moved to Assisi House in 2008 and served in prayer ministry until her death.

Sister Cecil Gabriel ministered in the Diocese of Trenton for nine years, serving at Holy Angels School from 1945-1954.

Sister Cecil Gabriel also ministered in the Diocese of Allentown for nine years, serving at St. Mauritus School in Ashland from 1935-1941, and Holy Ghost School in Bethlehem from 1942-1945.

All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, on Friday, July 1. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 A.M. followed by burial in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Cecil Gabriel is survived by nieces, a nephew, and by her Franciscan family.
