Aston, PA-Sister Dennis Ann Curran, OSF, died in Assisi House on September 4. She was eighty-three years of age and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for fifty-nine years. Sister Dennis Ann (Marie Rita Curran) was born in Philadelphia, where she was a member of Nativity BVM Parish. Prior to her entrance into the congregation in 1946, she graduated from Hallahan High School and worked as a long-distance operator at Bell Telephone. Sister Dennis Ann earned a B.S. in Education from Mt. St. Mary University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. She ministered primarily in elementary education. After her retirement she worked as a parish visitor and also volunteered at Assisi House, the congregation’s retirement residence in Aston. Her leisure activities included reading, doing crossword puzzles, swimming, and keeping up with her favorite sports teams.

Sister Dennis Ann ministered for thirty-five years in the Diocese of Wilmington. She taught at St. Peter School, New Castle (1959-1963); St. Thomas School (1964-1965); St. Joseph-on-the-Brandywine School (1965-1970); St. Anthony School (1972-1974); St. Ann School (1974-1979). She served in parish ministry at St. Peter Parish in New Castle (1979-1988) and at Corpus Christi Parish (1988-1997).

Sister Dennis Ann’s eleven years of ministry in the Archdiocese of Baltimore included teaching at St. Katharine School (1946-1947), Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in Middle River (1949-1951), St. Peter Claver School (1951-1957), St. Joseph School in Fullerton (1958-1959); and St. Anthony School (1970-1971).

Sister Dennis Ann ministered in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for eleven years. From 1997-2001 she lived at Holy Savior Convent in Linwood and volunteered at Assisi House in Aston. In 2001 she moved to Assisi House where she served in prayer ministry until her death.

Sister Dennis Ann also taught at St. Paul School in Spartanburg, South Carolina (1957-1958) and was principal of St. Paul School in Pensacola, Florida from 1971-1972).

All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, on Tuesday, September 9. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Dennis Ann is survived by nieces and nephews, and by her Franciscan family.
