Aston, PA—Sister Kathleen Frances Carroll, OSF (formerly Sister M. Brian), 83, died in Assisi House on December 5. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 58 years. Sister Kathleen was born in Boston, Massachusetts, where she was a member of St. Joseph Parish. She entered the congregation in 1949 and professed her first vows in 1952. She earned a B.S. in Education from Mt. St. Mary University in Emmitsburg and ministered primarily in elementary education. Her first teaching experience was at St. Bernadette School, Silver Spring, Maryland (1951-1952).

Sister Kathleen’s 13 years of ministry in the Diocese of Wilmington included teaching at St. Ann School (1952-1956); Holy Angels School, Newark (1956-1963); and St. Thomas School (1963-1965).

Moving to the south, Sister Kathleen taught at St. Paul School in Spartanburg, South Carolina (1965-1966) and at Holy Spirit School in Jacksonville, North Carolina (1966-1969).

Sister Kathleen ministered for 14 years in her native Massachusetts, teaching at Blessed Sacrament School in Walpole from 1969-1976 and again from 1981-1983. She also taught at Our Lady of the Assumption Achool in Lynnfield (1976-1981). In the Diocese of Harrisburg she ministered at St. Joseph Hospital in Lancaster (1983-1985).

Sister Kathleen ministered in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 24 years. She worked at Neumann University ((1985-1988), assisted in the congregation’s art studio (1989-1990), and volunteered at Assisi House (1990-1999). In 1999 she became a resident of Assisi House and served in prayer ministry until her death.

All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, on Friday, December 10. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Kathleen is survived by her brother, Rev. Alban Carroll, SA; her sister, Mary MacKay; and by her Franciscan family. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
