Aston, PA—Sister Veronica Anne McAuley, OSF, 85, died at Our Lady of Angels Convent in Aston, Pennsylvania, on November 30. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 59 years. Sister Veronica Anne (Bridget Teresa McAuley) was born in Headford, County Galway, Ireland. She entered the congregation in 1946 and professed her first vows in 1950. Sister Veronica Anne began her years in ministry at St. Stephen’s Mission in St. Stephens, Wyoming (1950-1951). During her lifetime, she ministered both in local house ministry, cooking for the sisters with whom she lived, and in healthcare as a licensed practical nurse.

Sister Veronica Anne ministered for 19 years in the Archdiocese of Seattle. She lived and ministered at St. Leo Convent, Tacoma (1953-1956), and worked with the children at St. Ann’s Home in Tacoma (1972-1973). From 1991-1997 she worked with the retired sisters at St. Ann Convent in Tacoma and from 1997-2005 volunteered at Franciscan Care Center in Tacoma.

Sister Veronica Anne ministered for 18 years in the Diocese of Baker. She lived and ministered at Holy Family Convent, Baker, from 1951-1952. From 1971-1972 she worked at St. Joseph Parish in Prineville. Her work in healthcare included ministering at St. Elizabeth Nursing Home/St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center (1973-1975, 1976-1991).

Sister Veronica Anne’s 16 years of ministry in the Archdiocese of Portland, Oregon, include her work at St. Patrick Convent (1952-1953) and Our Lady of Angels Convent (1956-1971).

In 2005 Sister Veronica Anne moved to Aston, Pennsylvania, where, until her death, her ministry included volunteering with the retired sisters at Assisi House.

All services will be held in Our Lady of Angels Chapel, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, Pennsylvania, on Monday, December 7. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Veronica Anne is survived by her sister, Nora Costello (Ireland); her niece and nephew; and by her Franciscan family.
