    A Franciscan hospitality center in Chester, Pennsylvania, that offers a welcoming atmosphere and activities that promote growth in mind, body, heart, and spirit. The staff works together on all aspects of offered programs including computer classes, bingo, soup and sandwich lunches, health screenings, social events, and the community garden.     Guardian Angels Child Care (Ministry of Caring)

    This child care facility in Wilmington, Delaware, serves children of working parents with low incomes. The children range from one-year-old through kindergarten age. All classes maintain a low child-to-staff ratio, with a teacher and teacher’s assistant in each classroom. Volunteers work as teachers’ assistants. (www.ministryofcaring.org)

    The Family Counseling Center of St. Paul’s

    St. Paul’s Family Counseling Center in Wilmington, Delaware, provides access to compassionate, culturally responsive emotional and behavioral health services that empower individuals and families. The community outreach coordinator works with the staff to further the mission of the center. He/she works with partner agencies to improve access to behavioral healthcare services for individuals and families chronically under served in traditional systems due to barriers related to language, immigration, health insurance, stigma, and poverty.     The Office of Corporate Social Responsibility

    The office of corporate social responsibility monitors the Sisters of St. Francis’ investment portfolio from a moral and ethical perspective and exercises rights as shareholders to hold corporations accountable for social and environmental policies to promote justice, peace, and reconciliation. Volunteers assist in this work.

    Red Hill Farm

    A six-acre community supported agriculture farm located in Aston, Pennsylvania, run by the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia. This farm provides fresh, locally-grown produce its members and the sisters. The farm utilizes organic practices.     • Describe your reasons for applying to be a Franciscan Volunteer. What are your past experiences that have led you to apply? What do you hope to accomplish/gain by being a Franciscan Volunteer?

    • The Franciscan Volunteers is based on our four core values: Communal Living, Social Justice, Spirituality, and the Franciscan Tradition. Which of these values do you feel most drawn toward and why?

    • Franciscan Volunteers live in community, sharing household chores, meals, celebrations, prayer and more. What are your expectations and apprehensions of living in community?

    • What have been your experiences of personal and communal prayer? How would you describe your spirituality? What expectations and apprehensions might you have regarding community living?

    • What is your understanding of simple living? What do you think are the joys and/or challenges of living on a simple monthly stipend? What changes in your lifestyle would you have to make?
