Thank You!

Thank you to everyone that contributed to the success of our 5th Franciscan Night Fundraiser on May 7th. We are pleased to share that we raised $180,000 to benefit Assisi House and the eldercare of our sisters!

The Sisters of St. Francis held their 5th annual Franciscan Night with a Kentucky Derby theme this year.  Sister Deborah Krist, director of mission advancement, had the idea to have a live horse present at the event and asked Sister Angela Sutera to help by making a rose blanket to display on the horse.  The blanket, which measured 9 ft. by 2 ft., was covered in 400 roses, each of which Sister Angela had painstakingly glued to the three-layer blanket that had been cut to shape and hand sewn together. It took Sister Angela approximately 14 hours to complete the blanket, which was trimmed with greenery and tassels to finish the look.  The horse, Zakopanee (Zak), owned by Sisters of St. Francis Foundation Board member Denis O’Flynn O’Brien and Patricia Sertich, was onsite and available for photo opportunities from 5:30 to 7 P.M. Zak was a good sport and looked beautiful covered with Sister Angela’s blanket.

As for Franciscan Night, it was a fabulously fun event and a success for the foundation. The event raised nearly $180,000 to help support the elder care for the Sisters of St. Francis. During the event, the Kentucky Derby was shown on the big screen for attendees, and the excitement was palpable in the room when long shot Rich Strike came from behind to win it all. Prizes were given for best Derby, attire and the casino games gave participants raffle tickets to put towards great prizes. In addition, there were Derby wagers, a “Gallery of Baskets” raffle, and a Payday Relay 50/50 raffle. Music was provided by Bob Grove, Demetria Bailey & the Fellows, and Neumann University cantor Evelyn Doran. The sisters of St. Francis in attendance and our guests had a marvelous time and we look forward to the next event—our annual Golf Tournament coming September 19, 2022.
