From Remembrance to Abolition
Eighty-one years after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we continue to remember the lives lost and pray for a future free from the threat of nuclear weapons.
Join the Franciscan Peace Center and the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration for the annual Hiroshima-Nagasaki Prayer Service, a virtual gathering that invites participants to reflect, pray, and renew their commitment to peace. This year’s theme, “From Remembrance to Abolition,” reminds us that remembering history also calls us to shape a more hopeful future.
Today, more than 12,000 nuclear warheads remain in the world’s arsenals, making the pursuit of peace and nuclear disarmament as urgent as ever. As followers of St. Francis and as we celebrate the Franciscan Jubilee Year, we are invited to recommit ourselves to living as instruments of peace through prayer, witness, and action.
The Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia are honored to join 36 other congregations of women religious and peace organizations in sponsoring this annual event.
