Aston, PA–Sister Alice Catherine Rohe, OSF, (formerly Sister Raymond Therese), died in Assisi House on July 20. She was seventy-eight years of age and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for fifty-eight years. Sister Alice Catherine was born in Baltimore, Maryland, where she was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Fullerton. Prior to her entrance into the congregation in 1947, she graduated from The Catholic High School of Baltimore. Two of her sisters, Sister Alice Joseph Rohe (now deceased) and Sister John Catherine Rohe, as well as three cousins, also entered the congregation. Sister Alice Catherine earned a B.S. in Education from Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania; an M.A. in Biology from St. Mary College in Winona, Minnesota; and an M.S. in Chemistry from Morgan State College in Baltimore. She ministered primarily in education, on both elementary and secondary levels, and in parish ministry, both as a pastoral associate and as director of outreach services. Her leisure activities included listening to music and doing various forms of crafts, especially watercolors.

Sister Alice Catherine ministered for eighteen years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She taught at St. Elizabeth School from 1950-1957 and at Hallahan High School from 1969-1980.

Sister Alice Catherine also ministered for eighteen years in the Diocese of Allentown where she taught at Allentown Central Catholic High School from 1957-1969 and again from 1980-1986.

Sister Alice Catherine’s eight years of service in her native Baltimore included working in parish ministry at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish from 2000-2008.Sister Alice Catherine ministered for ten years in the Diocese of Lexington, Kentucky. She served in parish ministry at St. Elizabeth Parish in Ravenna from 1990-2000. Additional ministry experience included serving at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton/St.Stephen Mission Church in Crawfordville, Florida (1986-1988) and St. Mary of the Angels Parish in Anderson, South Carolina (1988-1989).

All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, on Wednesday, July 23. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Alice Catherine is survived by five sisters, Sister John Catherine Rohe, Margaret Muller, Shirley Manubay, Irene McCafferty, Mary Therese Blondell; her nieces, nephews, and cousins; and by her Franciscan family.
