Aston, PA–Sister Annette Marie Finlayson, OSF, (formerly Sister Imelda Joseph), died in St. Ann Convent, Tacoma, on November 5. She was eighty-seven years of age and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for sixty-seven years. Sister Annette was born in Baker, Oregon, and graduated from St. Francis Academy. She entered the congregation in 1939 and professed her first vows in 1941. Sister Annette earned a B.E. in Education and a B.M. in Music, both from Marylhurst College in Portland, and an M.A. in English from Gonzaga University in Spokane. She ministered in both elementary and secondary education, was a music teacher, and served in congregational ministry.

Sister Annette ministered in the Diocese of Baker, Oregon, for twenty-one years. She taught at Sacred Heart Academy in Klamath Falls, St. Francis Academy in Baker, and St. Joseph Academy in Pendleton.

Sister Annette’s eighteen years of the Diocese of Seattle, Washington, included teaching at St. Leo School and Bellarmine High School, both in Tacoma. Since 1999 she has lived at St. Ann Convent in Tacoma, where she served in prayer ministry until her death.

Sister Annette ministered for fifteen years in the Diocese of Spokane, Washington. She served as director of the Personal Growth Center and later worked on the St. Joseph Property Research Project.

During her nine years of ministry in the Archdiocese of Portland, Sister Annette taught at St. Patrick School in Portland and at St. James School in McMinnville. She also served as vice provincial for the congregation’s former Sacred Heart Province.

From 1978-1983 Sister Annette lived at Our Lady of Angels Convent, the congregation’s motherhouse in Aston, Pennsylvania, and was a member of the congregational leadership team. During her term of office, one of her primary areas of responsibility was ongoing formation.

All services will be held in St. Ann Convent Chapel, 6602 S. Alaska Street, Tacoma. The vigil will be at 6 P.M. on Tuesday, November 11. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, November 12. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Tacoma. Sister Annette is survived by her Franciscan family.
