Aston, PA—Sister Carmel Grice, OSF, (formerly Sister Marie Perpetua) 92, died in Crozer-Chester Medical Center on April 6, 2022. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 68 years. Sister Carmel was born in Dublin, Ireland, where she was a member of Holy Child Parish in Larkhill. She entered the congregation in 1951 and professed her first vows in 1954. Sister Carmel ministered primarily in office and managerial roles.

Sister Carmel ministered for 45 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. For 19 years, Sister Carmel was at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Doylestown serving as assistant secretary.  She spent 16 years working for the congregation at Our Lady of Angels Convent, first as congregational treasurer and later in local house ministry as a seamstress.  Additional ministry in the diocese included serving in dining services and as chaplain at St. Francis Orphanage, Orwigsburg, and as a caregiver. In 2016 she moved to Assisi House, where she served in prayer and hospitality ministry until her death.

Sister Carmel also ministered for 11 years in the Diocese of Wilmington, where she served as executive director of housekeeping at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington.

Sister Carmel spent eight years in the Archdiocese of Baltimore serving as a chaplain and cafeteria coordinator at St. Joseph Hospital in Towson.  She also spent eight years in the Diocese of Trenton as an office clerk at McCorriston High School and as an EKG supervisor at St. Francis Medical Center.

All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, Aston, Pennsylvania, 19014, on Tuesday, April 12 and will be livestreamed.  A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial at will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Carmel is survived by her nieces and by her Franciscan family.
