Aston, PA— Sister Carolyn Therese Weindel, OSF, died in Assisi House on January 7. She was 91 years of age and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 70 years. Sister Carolyn Therese (Mildred Caroline Weindel) was born in Philadelphia and entered the congregation in 1933. She earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from Villanova University and an M.A. in Theology from St. Francis College in Loretta, Pennsylvania. Sister Carolyn Therese ministered primarily in education, both on elementary and secondary levels.

Sister Carolyn Therese ministered in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 64 years. She taught at St. Bonaventure School (1936-1938, 1941-1948); St. Francis DeSales School, Lenni (1939-1941); Hallahan High School (1953-1966); St. Maria Goretti High School (1966-1975); and St. Hubert High School (1975-1988). From 1988-1996 she served as archivist at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne. She retired in 1996 and moved to Our Lady of the Valley Convent in Aston. In 1997 she moved to Queen of Peace Convent, one of the congregation’s independent living units, and in 1999 to Assisi House where she remained until her death.

Sister Carolyn Therese also ministered for 5 years in the Diocese of Allentown where she taught at St. Francis School from 1948-1953.

All services were held in Assisi House on January 11, followed by burial in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Carolyn Therese is survived by her sister, Helen Wagner; her brother, Charles Weindel; nieces and nephews; and by her Franciscan family.
