Aston, PA — Sister Catherine Stephen Moyer, OSF, died in Assisi House on October 26. She was eighty-six years of age and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for fifty-seven years. Sister Catherine Stephen (Elizabeth Anna Moyer) was born in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, where she was a member of St. Gertrude Parish. Prior to her entrance into the congregation in 1948, she worked at No Ment Hosiery, Inc. Her cousin, Sister Margaret Bender, also entered the congregation. Sister Catherine Stephen earned a B.S. from Mt. St. Mary University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. She ministered primarily in elementary education.

Sister Catherine Stephen ministered for nineteen years in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. She taught at Immaculate Conception School, Towson (1972-1982) and St. Clement School, Rosedale (1987-1990). From 2000-2005 she tutored children at St. Anthony School, Gardenville. She served in prayer ministry at St. Joseph Medical Center Convent in Towson from 2005-2006.

Sister Catherine Stephen ministered for fifteen years in the Diocese of Wilmington. She taught at Holy Angels School, Newark (1956-1961, 1962-1970) and at St. Joseph-on-the-Brandywine School (1970-1972).

Sister Catherine Stephen ministered for fifteen years in the Archdiocese of Washington where she taught at St. Bernadette School in Silver Spring from 1982-1987 and again from 1990-2000.

Sister Catherine Stephen ministered for eight years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She taught at St. Benedict School (1950-1956) and worked at Our Lady of Angels Convent (1961-1962). In 2006 she moved to Assisi House in Aston where she served in prayer ministry until her death.

All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, on Tuesday, October 30. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Catherine Stephen is survived by two sisters, Barbara Yetter and Catherine Allwein; by a sister-in-law, Josephine Moyer; by her nieces and nephews; and by her Franciscan family.
