Aston, PA-Sister Christine Marie Huegel, OSF, died in Assisi House on October 12. She was ninety-five years of age and had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for sixty-nine years. Sister Christine Marie was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she was a member of St. Joseph Parish and a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School. Prior to her entrance into the congregation in 1937, she worked at Wickersham Printing Co. She professed her first vows in 1939. Her sister, Sister Cecilia Marie Huegel (now deceased) also entered the congregation. Sister Christine Marie earned a B.S. in Education from Villanova University. She ministered in education on both elementary and secondary levels. In her leisure time, Sister Christine Marie enjoyed keeping up with current issues and politics, both by reading and watching TV.

Sister Christine Marie ministered for twenty-seven years in the Diocese of Trenton. She taught at St. Michael Home in Hopewell (1945-1952), St. Anthony School (1952-1962), and St. Anthony High School (1964-1974).

During her twenty-four years of ministry in the Diocese of Harrisburg, Sister Christine Marie taught at York Catholic High School (1974-1998).

Sister Christine Marie served the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for nineteen years. She taught at St. Mary School in Manayunk (1938-1939), St. Benedict School (1939-1945), and St. Hubert High School (1962-1964). In 1998 she moved to Queen of Peace Convent in Aston and volunteered at Assisi House. In 2005 she moved to Assisi House where she served in prayer ministry until her death.

All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, on Thursday, October 16. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Christine Marie is survived by three brothers, James, Huegel, John Huegel, and Peter Huegel; one sister, Christine Young; nieces and nephews; and by her Franciscan family.
