Aston, PA—Sister Marian William Fitzgerald, OSF, 88, died in Riddle Hospital on Thursday, April 3, 2025. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 65 years. Sister Marian was born Marianne Rose Fitzgerald in South Amboy, New Jersey, where she was a member of St. Mary Parish and a graduate of St. Mary’s High School.  She entered the congregation in 1957 and professed her first vows in 1960. She earned an AA in Dietetics from the New York Institute of Dietetics and a BS in Dietetics from Immaculata College.  She ministered primarily in healthcare.

Sister Marian William ministered for 44 years in the Diocese of Trenton, serving at St. Francis Medical Center first as the food service director and later as a volunteer receptionist.

Sister Marian also ministered as a therapeutic dietitian at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware, for one year and at St. Mary Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for five years. At St. Joseph Hospital in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, she served as food service manager for six years. In 2016, Sister Marian moved to Assisi House, the congregation’s retirement home in Aston, Pennsylvania, where she served in prayer and hospitality ministry until her death.

All services will be held in Assisi House on Thursday, April 10, 2025, and will be livestreamed. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Marian is predeceased by her parents, William and Anna, and her brother, Msgr. William D. Fitzgerald. She is survived by her cousins and her Franciscan family. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
