Aston, PA—Sister Marie Anthony Heiss, OSF, 88, died in St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton, on July 30. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 65 years. Sister Marie Anthony (Mary Antoinette Heiss) was born in Zieglersville, Pennsylvania, but later moved to Philadelphia where she was a member of Our Mother of Sorrows Parish and a graduate of West Catholic High School. She entered the congregation in 1945 and professed her first vows in 1947. She earned a B.S from Villanova University and an M.S. in Pastoral Counseling from Iona College, New Rochelle, New York.

Sister Marie Anthony began her years in ministry in the Diocese of Trenton as a novice and continued serving there until her death. She taught at St. Anthony School (1946-1950, 1972-75, 1981-2005); St. Raphael School (1950-1951); Immaculate Conception School (1951-1957); and Corpus Christi School, Willingboro (1959-1963). She was principal of Immaculate Conception School (1963-72) and Holy Angels School (1975-1981). She also ministered at St. Francis Medical Center (1957-1959). From 2005-2012 she was an office assistant at Trenton Catholic Academy.

The viewing will be at St. Anthony Church, 626 S. Olden Avenue, Hamilton, New Jersey, on Sunday, August 5, from 2:30-5 P.M. and on Monday, August 6, at 9:30 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Anthony Church on Monday, August 6 at 10:30 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, Pennslyvania. Sister Marie Anthony is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Nora Heiss, nieces and nephews, and by her Franciscan family.
