Aston, PA—Sister Moira Frawley, OSF, 85, died in Assisi House on Monday, December 22, 2025. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 65 years. Born Mary Cecilia Frawley in Gowerhass, Kilrush, Co. Clare, Ireland, Sister Moira was a member of St. Senan’s Parish and a graduate of St. Xavier’s Secondary School. She entered the congregation in 1957 and professed her first vows in 1960. She earned a BS in Education from Marylhurst College. She ministered primarily in education and pastoral care.
Sister Moira began her teaching ministry on the West Coast, teaching in schools in California, Oregon, and Wyoming. In California, she taught at St. Edward School, Corona and St. Thomas School, Riverside, in the San Bernardino Diocese; St. John School in Wasco in the Diocese of Fresno; and Our Lady of Guadalupe School in the Diocese of San Diego. Sister Moira taught in Oregon at St. Clare School in the Diocese of Portland; and St. Joseph School, Pendleton, and Sacred Heart Academy, Klamath Falls in the Diocese of Baker. She also served for one year at St. Elizabeth Nursing Home in Baker. Additionally, she taught for two years at St. Stephen School in St. Stephen’s, Wyoming, in the Cheyenne Diocese.
Sister Moira served for two years at St. Thomas de Aquino School in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, in the Diocese of San Juan as an office helper and school nurse. She spent 10 years ministering in the Diocese of Santa Cruz del Quiche in Guatemala, as a pastoral agent on the diocesan health committee. She also spent three years in Ireland as a caregiver and one year in El Paso, Texas, at Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center.
On the East Coast, Sister Moira served in Pennsylvania for 14 years in the Allentown Diocese at Holy Infancy Parish in Bethlehem as the religious education coordinator.
For the past six years, Sister Moira has volunteered at various locations in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia including St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, Assisi House, and Our Lady of Angels Convent in Aston.
All services will be held in Our Lady of Angels Chapel in Aston on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, and will be livestreamed. A Prayer Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 A.M. Sister Moira is survived by her sister, Sister Teresa Frawley, OSF, who is also a member of the congregation; her brother Michael; her sister and brother-in-law Anne and Paddy McMahon; her sister Carmel; her many nieces and nephews; and her Franciscan family.
