Aston, PA—Sister Veronica Marie Tevis, OSF, 86, died in Assisi House on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 67 years. Sister Veronica was born Mary Regina Tevis in Williamstown, Pennsylvania, where she was a member of St. Philip Neri Parish and a graduate of Hallahan High School.  She entered the congregation in 1955 and professed her first vows in 1957.  She earned a BS in Education from Villanova University and ministered primarily in elementary education.

Sister Veronica spent 60 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia where she taught at St. Mary the Assumption School, Manayunk; St. Aloysius School, Pottstown; St. Francis de Sales School, Lenni; St. Elizabeth School, Philadelphia; All Saints School; Philadelphia; Drexel Neumann Academy, Chester; and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Doylestown.  She taught and served as principal at Resurrection School in Chester and at St. Mary School in Schwenksville.  Sister Veronica volunteered for 12 years at St. Mary Franciscan Shelter in Phoenixville, beginning in 2009.  She then served for three years in local house ministry in her convent home in Pottstown before moving to Assisi House, the congregation’s retirement residence in Aston, in 2024, where she served in prayer and hospitality ministry until her death.

Additional service includes five years teaching in the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Bethesda, Maryland.

All services will be held in Assisi House on Friday, March 9, and will be livestreamed. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Veronica is survived by her brother Joseph Tevis, her many nieces and nephews, and her Franciscan family. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S.
