Aston, PA—Sister Alphonsus Moran, OSF, 91, died in Assisi House on November 29, 2022. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 63 years. Sister Alphonsus was born Mary Agnes Moran in Glenamoy, County Mayo, Ireland, and was a member of Killcommen Erris Parish in the Diocese of Killala. She entered the congregation in 1957 and professed her first vows in 1959. Sister Alphonsus ministered primarily in support and service roles.

Sister Alphonsus served for 50 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. For 42 years, beginning in 1973, she served in local house ministry and for the priest department, offering hospitality to the resident chaplain and to visiting priests at Our Lady of Angels Convent. She also served as a nurse’s aide at Assisi House. Additional ministry in the archdiocese included serving in elder care for one year St. Mary Home in Bryn Mawr. Since 2015, Sister Alphonsus has served in prayer and hospitality ministry in Assisi House, where she lived at the time of her death.

During her 13 years in the Diocese of Trenton, Sister Alphonsus served as a nurse’s aide in the nursery at St. Michael’s Children’s Home in Hopewell, and in dining services and elder care at Morris Hall in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.

All services will be held in Assisi House, 600 Red Hill Road, Aston, Pennsylvania, on Friday, December 2, 2022, and will be livestreamed. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Alphonsus is survived by her sisters, Bridget Powers and Margaret Miller; her brothers, Anthony and Patrick Moran; her nephews and nieces, and her Franciscan family. Donations in her name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, PA 19014.
